The Crimson-he aded
Partridge (Haematortyx sanguiniceps) is a species of bird in the
Phasianidae family. It is found in Indonesia and Malaysia.
Its natural habitats are subtropical or tropical moist lowland
forests and subtropical or tropical moist montanes.
Description: Medium-sized (25 cm) plump partridge with unmistakable
crimson head, breast, and vent. Male otherwise blackish brown; female
olive-brown.
Iris - brown; bill - yellow in male, brown in female; feet and lets -
grey with two spurs in male and one in female.
Voice: High, harsh clucking kak kak kak. Pom-prang, pom-prang
repeated several times in small, metallic voice.
Range: Endemic to Borneo.
Distribution and status: Widespread in the hills and mountains of
Borneo. Formerly regarded as common (Smythies, 1981) but now uncommon
between 500 and 1700 m, occasionally found down to 200 m. |
