Sabu is still a stronghold of animistic beliefs,
Portuguese missionaries first arrived before 1600 and there work was continued
by the Dutch ,despite this traditional beliefs persist.
Sabunese societies are divided into clans and Sabunese women have a thriving
ikat-weaving traditio n, their cloth typically has stripes of black or dark
blue interspersed by stripes with floral motifs.
The island is dry, most of the trees are palms
From these trees is made a thick sweet syrup, which is very sticky, a Sabunese
expression says that the Sabunese women, who are renowned for their beauty and
caring, are like this syrup as if you try you will be stuck forever,
